Rihanna bares all emotion (and skin) in the video for her second single off of her new album Unapologetic. Penned by duet vocalist and video co-star Mikky Ekko, ‘Stay’ is an enchanting ballad with a desperate cry for companionship.
The video, directed by Sophie Muller, compliments the song’s passionate subtleties. What lonely place than a bathroom where most people start off their day with only themselves and their thoughts. Rihanna finds herself confronting her bare, raw emotions in her dimly lit bathroom. Ekko appears as an imagination of an unrealised relationship. Coming in and out of the very same bathroom where they most likely shared their better days.
Muller shows how videos don’t need large sets and big budgets to capture your attention and stir the emotions. Often, the music is enough to say it all and the video is merely a visual transporter of that initial message.
