Havana’s Buena Vista Social Club was a trendy, bustling entertainment club in the 1940s where dancers, musicians and music revellers would converge to share their love for good music and good times. Half a century later, the club was forced to close its doors following 1959’s Cuban Revolution. This prompted Cuban musicians and performers who played at the social club to produce a collaborative album called the Buena Vista Social Club in honour of what the club stood for.
Some founding members have since passed on but today, the surviving 13 members still keep true to the original Buena Vista spirit and that’s precisely what they brought to the CTIJF stage at the Cape Town International Convention Centre this weekend. Watch them swoon the crowd right here:
