R. Kelly treats his Pitchfork happy people to a classic.
The Happy People/U Saved Me album was the album that made sense of the double-disc set. Disc 1 gave you instant classics to step to and beautiful love jams to keep your partner loving you, while Disc 2 was reserved for the down moments when you’re in need of a pick-me-up or a reminder that God’s still got your back. Disc 1 title track, “Happy People” was the ultimate steppers’ song and radio hit. Tell me you’ve never tried out the step that Kelly leads midsong and I’ll tell you Obama’s white.
If you know anything about The King of R&B live, you’ll know that he’s notorious for cutting song’s short. Okay, so festival audiences are always packed like sardines and consequently won’t have space to step but there’s no harm in trying, right? We missed that half of the song in this performance but the warm nostalgia that the performance induced simultaneously brought forgiveness.
For our Soweto followers, we hope this performance has got you psyched – R. Kelly hits Orlando Stadium tomorrow as part of his Single Ladies Tour. Durban, your turn at the Moses Mabhida stadium comes two days later. Find all you need to know about the tour here.
In case you miss the step as much as we do, we thought we’d throw in a treat. You’re welcome.
